Bhagalpur shamed...yet again

The underbelly of Indian democracy?

The disturbing visuals that were beamed across television channels on August 29, 2007 stood testimony to the dead conscience of our so called civilized society...

A twenty-something man, accused of chain snatching, was mercilessly beaten up by the local residents of Nathnagar in Bhagalpur district of Bihar.

A barrage of blows was being rained upon him...everyone seemed to take immense pleasure in kicking and punching the malnourished man – his hands tied behind his back.

After beating him black and blue, the irate mob handed him over to the police.

And the police was no less...

A policeman tied one of his feet to the back of his motorcycle and dragged him through the street.

Bhagalpur had earned the epithet for police brutality three decades ago when policemen poured acid into the eyes of several under trials.

And this time too, the district police stood up to its reputation...

The wretched man cried and pleaded for mercy...but to no avail...all those present at the scene had lost their conscience.

None came for the man’s rescue...everyone watched the savagery...silently.

Humanity grieved and wept...

Its good to be sensitive about such issues but not to be carried away...

Do you the know the same thing happens on Delhi streets everyday in one form or other.

Have you ever seen college students beat up bus conductors and drivers mercilessly.Where is the media then???

Innocent people are beaten up within the confines of police
stations for no reasons.

It is simply that media brought this in limelight to raise their TRPs.Why didnt media camera team move forward to stop the police wallah after all media is most powerful. But then media wanted clips to make it sensational.

It was highlighted beyond proportions in the media that simply raised emotions as that of yours in this article.

If you are a family person, then it is impossible for anyone to go ahead and stop the goons.I agree that people should step in bizarre incidents collectively. Our society lacks the spirit of nationhood and unity.
Also there is no administrative support system otherwise such events could have been prevented.

So no need to be that much emotional.

You are talking about civilized society and giving an example from a very uncivilized part of India, Bihar, History has shown this world incidents of human brutality right from the birth of Religion. Every part of world has became victim of such drames, in India very surprisingly, as they say we have lots of laws, but no justice, lots of temples but no spirituality, lots of political parties but no real democracy, etc.
Media itself is victim of biased society. I dont think media can help deal such issues. Indian media is reincarnation of American media . So need to comment it on.

I don't understand whenever some issues gets highlighted in the media, many fingers will rise towards the TRP,it looks that the incident happened on the behest of Media.
Everyone in the society is biased, because of his/her inclinations towards certain group, community or religion to which he is bound to follow,I am aghast over the issue of humanity,my observations and my own inner self agrees that the people who are pointing their fingers over such incidents under humanity are those who don't even understand that their 4 fingers are pointing towards them.
To be every rational,if a thief entered in your house and you have caught him red handed, you didn't have bothered to call up the police first but you would have beaten him up till you have satisfied your own self.
It may look derogatory and meaningless but this is the very truth of Humans.
Well Media can be biased but not always.
Speak your heart rather than moving the tongue only.

Extremely disturbing.

Humans have reduced themselves to demons...not even animals...

Sigh...

...in a book called "Hanging not Punishment Enough" there is description of an exactly same seen as here in a pic, which happened around 14 century. in europe until the end of 18th century public executions were made into great theatrical representations of pain. people looked at the punishment as the opportunity to equal the savagery of the crime itself. they like to see tortured criminal as object of mercy and admiration...if the general public condemns criminal to this type of suffering (allowing it to happen in front of their eyes) it shows that we have not moved far from middle age beliefs. we can not see that today’s criminal is tomorrow’s neighbor. he/she is part of us... he has family, children, parents, friends… we brake their hearts too... we have to concur our lower nature.. and if we teach something let's teach only love. they are part of us
